You too can profit from Pinoy dysfunction!
Written on Friday, August 1st, 2008 at 11:26 am | by benign0Jumping off from a comment Nick made a while ago about trust, I thought I’d start with this: “Trust” is but a mere human response to a perception created by the trustee.
Erap is showing up yet again as a top contender in the whole popularity race leading up to the 20xx (whatever) election. Obviously he’s succesfully spun a perception of trust around his person yet again (if it had been lost in the first place…).
Talk about Comeback King!
Erap can obviously sell ice to an eskimo. Then again many Pinoys eat and live off mounds of garbage, so maybe there’s a case for selling garbage to Pinoys…
Seriously, I’d hire Erap to market my products. If he were a bit more shrewd, he’d team up with President Arroyo — comeback skills + hang-on-to-power skills. Perfect combination - specially in a society like the Philippines.
An Erap presidency is also good for business if you are a blogger or webmaster. The sheer amount of traffic created by Pinoy circuses is great. An Erap presidency will surely be a big six-year circus. Did I tell you guys that the original inspiration for Get Real Philippines (GRP) was all of these ‘Erap Resign’ websites that proliferated back in 2000? That’s right. We could have been just another one of the Erap-Resign gang that failed to evolve after Erap bit the dust (for a while). But then GRP evolved and became what it is now (timeless in its elegance), and so here I am.
Here are a few oldies but goodies (my personal trip down memory lane) that should be immortalised in a museum of historians of Philippine circusry:
ChanRobles.com - one of the first websites to link to my then fledgling Net presence! It still looks exactly the way it did back in 2000 (sniff…). Note also that its whole list of e-pioneers (which GRP — at the time going by the long-winded “An honest evaluation…” — is proud to be a member of) is still intact. Galing!
eLagda.com - A groundbreaking initiative by the illustrious Enteng; the website that was to launch a million signatures (but ended up with just a few hundred thousand) to petition Erap’s ouster. It’s the Jaws of the online activist industry — the Original that spawned a thousand copycats! Unfortunately it is now defunct. But what I did do is immortalise parts of it here.
The Secret Diary of Erap Estrada - a blog at a time when blogs were not yet that fashionable..
I knew we were starting to get noticed and getting a bit of traction when I came across these as the 21st Century unfolded:
Iskandalo Cafe - The first website to issue an e-award to GRP - the Golden Tornillo Award!
Tanikalang Ginto - one of the first (if not, the first) search site dedicated to Pinoy websites. It listed GRP in its list of Best of CyberPinoys in June of 2003.
Going back to Anti-Erap sites, a lot of them were pretty generic satires. And a lot of them are now defunct. But there were a handful that were in original existence when I first started checking out the landscape:
The Erap Sucks page - straight to the point.
Filipino Silent Protesters - not exactly sure what their objective was, but quite pioneering in the way they used branding and viral marketing concepts in their approach.
Erap Resign Central - the Geocities page to which we are re-directed to seems to have been deactivated. If I recall right, this is the site that led me to explore Geocities as the first host for GRP.
As they say: …and the rest is history… to which I add which is about to repeat!
Funny how we now find ourselves at the verge of another one of those instances of the Philippines repeating its own history. A spectacular return of King Padrino himself now looms in our ocho-ocho horizon! So here’s a bit of investment advise: the following domain names are in the market:
- erap.com
- impeacherap.com
- erapresign.net
Grab ‘em while you can! YOU TOO can profit from Pinoy dysfunction!

LOL.
If Erap wasn’t pardoned I was planning to set up a site named “erapsakulungan.com” where it will be a day-to-day chronicle of his life in Bilibid.
correction, if i may, benigno. erap can sell ice to an eskimo in the dead of winter but only an eskimo without brain like him. i wouldn’t insult the entire eskimo people. i would bet my last dollar, most are not dumb.
btw, this “pulse asia” surveys are becoming more ludicrous as they become more frequent. the money must be really good. but, i think, the greater sinner is the diabolical media that hysterically publicizes, in frenzied abandon, these contrived “perceptions” for commercial and/or political gain. they feed on the gullibility of the simple mind of which, sad to say, we just have too many.
Which is why I thought, hey, why not just profit from all the stupidity instead? Everyone else is doing it…
i think erap is scared that the muslims will have an agreement with us christians. that means returning the holy and really valuable sites of islam that erap ordered to be overran and seized. it was as if the world fell for many muslims in maguindanao, as a friend of mine nap santos and The Archangel Blog say. that’s why the shit is running again, both for president and for his dear life. i hope he gets run over by a huge truck as soon as humanly possible…
But many countries experience similar and even worse crises, including the U.S., which experienced a bloody civil war. Even today it has Dubya.
