Will New Impeachment Case VS GMA Fly?
Written on Saturday, October 11th, 2008 at 8:29 am | by Ding G. GageloniaThe detractors of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, principled or otherwise, are making a big show this weekend of filing yet another impeachment case against the chief executive, citing as basis a plethora of issues ranging from the ZTE-NBN bribery deal to the botched Bangsamoro Juridical Entity MoA.
But coffee shop talks these past week all prognosticate that apart from the customary headlines, nothing much will come out of the gesture, with Mrs. Arroyo’s loyalists in Congress certain to shoot down the complaint after duly noting it.
Malacanang’s spinmeisters are also absolutely correct that the individuals thumping their chests and rushing to file the case either have all-too-obvious personal political agendas or are not really courting public opinion, much less the proper legal forum, with clean hands.
Joey de Venecia for one is still really just his father’s son, with the former House Speaker seriously wanting in public credibility.
So what do we really have?
There are absolutely valid issues representing the president’s possible culpable violation of her oath of office but with the cases now tainted with melamine, in a manner of speaking.
To top it off, the reality is that the public, tired with all the political posturings of wannabees and wash-outs, have largely conceded the point that Mrs. Arroyo has a firm hold on power through to 2010 and any political adventurism outside of the Constitution will not be condoned.
Let’s focus on the more crucial business of working to steel the socio-economic situation from thre current economic meltdown that is threatenng the globe.

well, frankly ding, i agree on most of what you wrote here except for one–that the public will never agree on any political adventurism prior to 2010.
the only group who will not condone any activity outside of the Constitution against Gloria will be the trapos, and those who benefit from Gloria’s mafia circle.
having consulted many people on the viability of any action prior to 2010, i feel that any group who (1) has the firepower and the (2) political mass base can successfully oust Gloria at this point. the people are just waiting for the right time. if somebody stands up and dare gloria to a political fist fight, it is sure as the sun rises in the east and sets in the west that he’ll win. don’t count civil society and the enlightened Patriots yet. they still have some power to make Gloria pack her puny, little Vuitton bags.
So we have a debate going, Pat.
Any extra-constitutional incident at this time will likely spell dictatorship, right?
Are you saying we want that? There are thoughts I will not share at the moment, but with the political wheels of the wannabees revving up and oil of the 3-Gs kind being mustered, you can bet only the militarists and pretending political gurus are licking their chops.
dictatorship is not that bad ding. if dictatorship leads to a better life for all, then, so be it. a stronger government that dispenses fairness is what we need, not an administration pretending to be strong just to get money from our pockets.
and who’s to say that those who want gloria out will create a dictatorship? anyway, even if they don’t move, we will still find ourselves under a dictatorship. it would be worst if Gloria heads this dictatorship because we will stuck in a very bad rut, bro. imagine, gloria heads a dictatorship that continues to do very bad things to us. i’ll prefer a newer one rather than the present.
by the way, are’nt we living under a dictatorship, promoting pseudo-democratic ideals? what’s worst about it is this–this dictatorship that we are in promotes the most foul policies. dyfunctionalism in government has to have an end. why? a continuation of such a situation for us, especially in the light of a global recession, will kill everyone. it is time to create a government that is better and more responsive than the present one.
Patricio, it does matter whether we end up in a dictatorship of not. For example, imagine having a forum such as FV shut down just because a dictator does not like what he or she is reading.
That being said, i think the time to initiate the removal of Gloria Arroyo is now, not in 2010. Since Hello Garci, Civil Society has been putting off this task for too long with the hope that she can somehow reform herself. Look where that got us? You just have to survey the damage that has been done to our institutions since 2005-2006 when the Middle Class decided to move on.
yes, cvj. the more we fail ousting this usurper, the bolder they become.
look, have’nt everyone noticed? when we failed the first time, the deals entered by Gloria ran in the millions. when we failed the second time, these deals ran in the billions. my gosh! these people become bolder and they rob us with even bigger amounts! and here we are, debating whether we must oust her or not!
time to make the anvil fall. time to let the gauntlet down.
by the way, i dare Gloria! Shut the Voice of the Filipino down in whatever form and I’ll abandon my current path and go the path of the Patriots. If she does that, she’ll write finis to all these stupid things she’s doing right now.
sabi nga nila cvj, si andres atapang a tao. a putol a ulo, di atakbo. a putol a braso, di pa rin atakbo. a putol a….., atakbo, abilis, hehehe. (the ….is the DSL connection)
It’s like Dumbo. All it needs is heart.
Ding,

Huh.Impeachment a politcal adventurism outside of the Constitution?
Yes, glu gun.
If you read the phrase closely, “political adventurism” (your sarcastic “huh” notwithstanding)does include, in the broad sense, legitimate political activity. What is wrong is if the political venture, the mobilization, if you will, goes outside the Constitution’s margin.
Claro que si?
BTW, I never referred to impeachment as illegal.
