Who Carries The Burden of Protection?

In the conflicts between the MILF and the military, it is the citizens that are caught in between those in arms. But what really irks me is that the MILF can claim that they have the will and backing of “their people”, and yet, we have to ask ourselves, if it is “their people”, then don’t they have the burden of protecting them during their conflicts?

When conflicts erupt, the military bares the brunt of the burden in protecting the civilians, while THE MILF have less of a responsibility, except that of killing marines. This is why, the military is basically fighting an insurgent warfare, because not only do they have to tactically maneuver against the MILF, and engage in gunfight, they have the double duty of having to safely coordinate with the civilians and ensure their safety.

The MILF, on the other hand, their selfish motives have always been on display, before, during, and after such conflicts. The civilian population should really take a good look at what chaos the MILF has brought to their region.

Nick, I would think the State carries that burden and so long as the Republic has not yet been partitioned, the government of the day, benefiting as it does from all taxes collected and wielding State power has the sworn responsibility to protect Filipinos of all ethnic, religious and political stripes.

Failing at this task, no government should last a day longer as organized governance will be replaced by anarchy.

everytime the government does its duty to protect its citizens from armed aggression, foreign or homegrown, there will always be collateral damages. this is the insanity of war and this is where aggressors derive their strength, especially when they use civilians as human shields. thus, the alternative to war is submission in the name of peace, or to save civilian lives.

btw, the harebrained noises coming from the commision on human rights and some leftists “civil society” groups and politicians, that the government should be sued for civilian damages in the fight agains the milf rebels, are the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever heard. this is just one example of how the government is being hindered from taking decisive punitive action against all rebels. often, the military have to fight with one hand tied to their backs. is it any wonder they are “failing”?

    Atty. Ben,

Here is an issue I agree with you fully. The rebels are exactly that:rebels. All those who seek to destroy the Republic cannot be dealt with the proverbial kids’ gloves. But those who also commit treason by abrogating this Republic’s sovereignty in the guise of pursuing peace should be shot.

I agree. The fact that this armed groups ruined the lives of the people in some parts of North Cotabato. In fact civilians were so gratified for the offensive of the Military forces. This insurgent group that threatened the masses in that vicinity must be accountable at all cause. As much as possible it must be a total destruction of the group of “Kato” for a fact that they hampered the civilians. Hence, hostilities has ended, the group of “Kato” must face all the damages he inflicted to the community……

The CHR must be rational, they must see all angles. The Military forces were just doing their call of duty to protect the civilians……….

I am from Mindanao I see it as clear as it is, thats why we are pleased for what the Military forces has done………
