Where is Abducted MSU Biology Professor Sherwin Nacua?

Let as give attention to the ordeal of yet another kidnapping victim: Mindanao State University biology professor Sherwin Nacua has been missing for two weeks.

His stature may not be as high profile as the recent Sulu abduction of Ces Drilon and company, but Sherwin Nacua’s safety is no less important.

Faculty members of the Mindanao State University (MSU) are appealing to the kidnappers to release their captive who was kidnapped on June 26.

Nacua was with 22 (not 19 as earlier reported) other MSU faculty members in a jeepney bound for Iligan City when their vehicle was stopped by four armed men wearing military uniforms in Saguiaran, Lanao del Sur.

The kidnappers commandeered the vehicle towards Poona Piagapo town. But while traversing a dirt, narrow road, the jeepney stopped before a logging truck that had been stalled. The kidnappers then took from the passengers their mobile phones and ID cards.

Nacua, the only breadwinner in the family, is married to Elena, a housewife. They have three children.

No demands in exchange for Nacua’s release have been made, but talks circulating within the MSU campus reportedly suggest Nacua was abducted because he had flunked a student.”

    Thanks for bringing up the victims of kidnap for ransom in Mindanao who don’t happen to be generals-cum-peace negotiators, priests, presidential pals or famous press personalities. Let’s not also forget the two pairs of brothers who are simple linemen of Baselco that the Abu Sayyaf are threatening to behead today, who are also the indirect victims of Ces Drilon’s recent ransom payments, and those ransoms paid for General Ben Muhammad Dolorfino for “board and lodging” last year, and the ransom paid for Fr. giancarlo bossi by the Catholic Church and Ronnie Puno.

    Every ransom paid sets up the next Kidnapping. That is why the bills and culpability for each should be delivered to the previous.

    No idea this happened. I was in CDO (well, Opol) just last month. Horrible news. That was a damn good paper that he co-wrote on the biodiversity of the riverine ecosystem of Mt. Malindag.

    It’s never good news to here members of the academe gone “missing”. The academic community extends their regards and hopes for the safe release of Sherwin S. Nacua.
