What Are You Looking For?
Written on Monday, June 16th, 2008 at 7:12 am | by cocoyThis dispute over subsidies is getting out of hand. It speaks of how shallow and how unimaginative the boys and girls running the show are. Our government is being run like a failing business. No surprise there, I suppose. No government on Earth has ever been run efficiently. “No,” being, no one has done it— doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
After the disappointment of Estrada, after the bitterness of Arroyo, what’s next? I’d love to say, “Hope”. So I ask you, dear reader, no names— let’s play “ask yourself, what are you looking for to run this country” What kind of leader are you looking for, in as long as you want comment, or as terse as you’d choose.
Let me start: “visionary with balls”.

prioritizes the poor, willing and able to dismantle the oligarchs.
For me, we need someone with visions of a Lee Kuan Yew, statesmanship of a Mahathir, patience of Gandhi, ruthlessness of Chairman Mao, and compassion of a Dalai Lama. In short, Superman sans tights and cape.
But if we settle for less, I have my eye on Chiz. He looks and sounds sincere (i.e. less jaded), and his statements makes sense (i.e. less photo-oped).
I’ll second the motion on ‘visionary with balls’.
Feminists might argue with the “balls” apart, if taken out of context, of course. But I’d say yes to a visionary, with balls, or the gut instinct to put a stop to the wretched madness of the times. A visionary with balls, yes. But more importantly, a visionary with sustainable balls, one who won’t be easily cowed by the oligarchs and castrated by the weight of the social burdens before her, or him.

At last our brilliant and doctorate economist PGMA and her bevies of technocrats schooled in prestigious foreign universities through scholarships from reknowned governments has come-up with highly commendable and superb solutions to mitigate hunger and poverty pervading all over our country — subsidy and dole out to the poor!!!
And they are bragging proudly of their solution.
Is it the solution to avert an inter-class civil war (poorest and poor vs. rich, politicians and those responsible for the poverty in our country). By the way, 2010 Presidential election is just around, its good to start early improving the image.
Mikey_Liling, good comment. though i wanted to avoid naming people. i wanted to ask for the qualities of the leader we are looking for. I don’t want to narrow down to names because i wanted to avoid the pitfall of a government of personality. i wanted people to ask what they want. my point being, “We shouldn’t settle”.
mabini, yep, indeed 2010 is around the corner and that is precisely why i am asking questions.
benign0, [splice]… for the feminists reading this post: women can have balls too. Thatcher, Clinton— just to name two recent women.
whatelse people… keep ‘em coming.
oh, one more thing… depending on the responses for this post, i’ll post my next question.
Someone who will approach things differently.
My favourite quotes:
(1) A problem cannot be solved using the same thinking that created it.
(2) Insanity is expecting different results while doing the same thing again.
A leader who has firm grasp of what it will take RP to yet succeed in this 21st century (vision)and will do whatever it takes to make this happen (mission).
