HYPOCRITES GALORE
Written on Friday, June 20th, 2008 at 4:20 pm | by RG CruzCes is back in the newsroom. I can only be too happy that she is. During the day she was released, I was all the way in davao city covering the president’s tour there. She was there to grace the start of the merger of the lakas-kampi—in a bid to extent their influence over the country beyond 2010—whatever that means.
She was there noontime—well after Ces was already en route back to manila aboard the abs-cbn private jet. For a while there, since we were told there would be little coverage opportunities in zambo and sulu for ces, we thought her sit photo op would be with the president—same way they handled Father Bossi last year.
But as press secretary Jesus Dureza told us—such a move would just be way too callous.
Anyway—the president’s trip was hectic. Apart from the lakas-kampi—she was there to present the lakas candidates for the arm polls, led by incumbent re-electionist governor zaldy ampatuan. This is the context people are forgetting in this abduction. Its not just any abu sayyaf abduction. From all indications—it was a fund raising for a political campaign.
Back to Ces
Many things are being said now about the lessons people should learn from this. I think ces has learned hers. She admits that she knew things could be this bad all along—and yet sutil lang talaga siya. Im not sure if she will be sanctioned by the office—as if the abduction was not enough dib a? but If one were to ask me—she should be sanctioned—if only to remind her and other future journalists to be more careful in their pursuit of the story.
But as with my policy reminder post—media isn’t dumb. Its just stubborn. And this should tells us that rules are there not to be dekorasyon or burloloy.
However at the same time, this should not distract and detract us from purusing our primary objective—bringing stories that could matter out. Someone has to do it. And its gotta be us. There are many ways to do that—not necessarily compromising your own personal security. That is the tricky part.
Ces’ trip to my mind is justified. Whatever story it was—it was worth the trip. But—there are many ways she could have done it and that is something she now admits. She would have still had the same results if she had resorted to less risky ways. Its upto her to justify why she defied logic and reason and risked her and the her crews lives.
Anyone who says that she should have just not done the story at all is just jealous of being otuscooped—pseudo journalists who thankfully are neither part of abs-cbn or of the profession in general—brats who got into this profession for the wrong reasons.
To ces, you made a horrible mistake my dear friend. Thankfully it wasn’t as costly as people thought it would be. But this doesn’t eradicate 20 years of your faithful service and commitment to bringing stories that bring the change you and all of us can believe in. you maybe a veteran—youre supposed to be sharper than this but seniority doesn’t make you perfect. And might I say—if there’s anytime when you looked better than you did with the leopard print bandana and stilletos of the peninsula siege fame—it would be when you got out—because it was the best kind of beauty—the beauty of life—and wisdom—all in one package.
To Ces’ critics, whether or not inggit lang kayo sa kaniya—cut the girl some slack. She’s been through hell and back. She’s accounting for her mistakes and now he who is without sin should cast the 1st stone.
Sa totoo lang ang sarap magbanggit ng pangalan ng mga ipokrita sa industriyang ito. Anjan pa rin sila, asa tabi tabi lang. mabuti nga mga wala na kayong karir.
For an insudtry that’s supposed to deal with truth and accountability—we have way too many hypcrites.
anyway—ces jimmy and angel were back in abs-cbn last night. they only stayed a while because they had to attend to some legal matters. but—its was really nice seeing them
Id like to congratulate the government for how well they handles the situation. a special thanks even to gma7 for their sensitivity. pwede naman pala maging friendly ang competition eh. sana ganun araw araw, dahil lahat ng pamilya, may puso. gaya ng saging. di ba mark lapid? hahahaha. (sorry, in joke)

Did she even come up with the story? The gambit didn’t pay off and all that happened is that the terrorists became richer. She jeopardized not only the interest of her team and channel - she also compromised the welfare of the country.
hi benj. i think whether she came up emptyhanded or not is immaterial to my point. my point was that you cant fault her for trying.
and even in trying, theres a limit to what you can can blame her fore—because journalism is never an exact science. for every story you see on air or on print, we must have gone through 10 diffrent leads that were discarded.
