Carving Out The Bangsamoro Juridical Entity: What Will Be Left?
Written on Wednesday, August 6th, 2008 at 2:06 pm | by Ding G. GageloniaThe uproar over the now TRO’d siging of the MoA to section off a wide portion of Mindanao and with it the revenues from the present and prospective extraction off mineral and other resources, natural or man-made (at a 75-25 split in favor of the MILF) is sounding at higher decibels. Critics are already warning of war erupting either way if the BJE pact becomes a reality or is junked.
At least one sensible and sober proposal has come from journalist-turned-politician Manny Pinol, the vice governor of North Cotabato. He says a consultative commission should be formed to craft a national consensus on the issue that threatens to dismember the Republic.
Most Filipinos are in the dark, thanks to the secretive government of the day which thinks nothing of its sworn responsibility to be transparent and to account for its actions.
Even the secessionist Moro Islamic Liberation Front has adopted a co-equal tone, scolding Malacanang for hiding behind the skirt of executive privilege and thus fueling opposition to the plan.
A simple comparative look at the Philippine map and the proposed BJE gives anyone a clear view of just how massive a chunk of the country is proposed to be carved out:
