Back to what’s important

I thank Ding for his thoughtful note — a true call for restraint and perspective in these crazy times. On that matter, I would indeed be interested in what a fellow fist-waver like Ellen Tordesillas would think about such a perspective. ;)

We just need to get back to basics. Ces Drilon’s plight is now a police matter.

Just as ordinary Pinoys who’ve been impacted by crime and violence are no more than statistics to the average celebrity, however way this whole drama will end will in the same way be just another news snippet for the ordinary Filipino media consumer to gawk at.

Who says life is unfair?

If we want to practice what is being preached here, we should leave this matter to the police, allow Drilon’s family and close friends their monopoly over sincere, genuine, and wrenching concern for her safety and re-focus on the things that truly matter to the ordinary Pinoy.

Let’s just hope that in the future, celebrity journalists who purposely place their lives at risk (if we are to believe reports that Drilon refused an armed army escort as she skipped off to that fateful gig) think of the disproportionate amount of public resources that gets mobilised on their behalf, not to mention the disproportionate amount of attention it attracts.

I have my doubts if Drilon’s case will be just another “nine day’s wonder”.

At ellentordesillas, the abduction is already a government conspiracy. An AFP rescue attempt will automatically be viewed as a government assasination aimed at the reporter. The best thing the government can do for itself is to sit on it’s a$$ and do nothing. But if Ces Drillon’s employer holds true to it’s no-ransom policy, she may be $hit out of luck.
