25 years of ATOM-ic progress!
Written on Thursday, August 21st, 2008 at 11:00 am | by benign0Let’s pause to take a quick breather from our pre-occupation with our little tingi-tingi civil war in the south, and reflect on 25 years of “progress”
since you-know-who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Philippines after Ninoy Aquino: What has changed?
I’m not one to come up with hollow-headed conspiracy theories but war has always been an effective tool called upon by governments to divert people’s attentions from immediate personal miseries and broken election promises. In this light I find it interesting that considering the significance of the Number 25 with regard to anniversaries, not much chatter about the 25th birthday of our 500-peso bill has been heard around here.
By the way, for those of us belonging to the much maligned Generation Y crowd, ATOM stands for the August Twenty One Movement — the original yellow-flag-waving gang led by Butz Aquino that started us all down the path to our national 15 minutes of fame in 1986.

The most explosive moment in Liberal Party History has to be the Plaza Miranda Bombing, whose anniversary is coincidentally also today. I have always been intrigued by the persistent theory that Jose Maria Sison warned Ninoy Aquino to stay away from the Plaza Miranda Rally. Even though he was the standard bearer of the LP slate and was scheduled to deliver a trademark speech that evening, he diverted to the Manila Hotel, thus avoiding the two grenades that killed nine and injured dozens soon after. Marcos, who was instantly blamed for the attack at the time, suffered a major electoral setback. Later, testimony from Victor Corpus placed the blame on Joma and Jovito Salonga in his autobiography came to believe it too. (If Marcos had done it, they would all have died. As it was, the NPA grenade thrower missed the stage with one of the two he hurled.)

Filipinos are looking back 25 years ago but the Country is still in transition. The late Ninoy sacrificed his life for the Filipinos, His a great Man, A man of integrity. The country that he died for is getting worst. Thus, conflict is everywhere & good governance is being denied & Filipinos are deprived with decent life……
